Compare and contrast: the women by the pool and the sculpture by Botero
Am I the only one who sees the humor in Steve Wynn’s choice of Fernando Botero as the inspiration for his new restaurant named after the Colombian artist?
In this city where the perfect woman’s body is a combination of thin yet voluptuous, the Encore’s Botero Steak restaurant celebrates the painter and sculptor who favors chubby. OK, fat.
His subjects are usually bigger than most of us aim to achieve. And for a restaurant, that seems to be sending a message of “let’s indulge and not worry about how we look.”
A Botero sculpture of a woman is a focal point of the steakhouse, which offers views of the swimming pool.
Diners will be able to look at the women outside striving to be ideal and contrast that with the idealized artistic female shape inside.
Now that’s a dining experience.
