Joe Williams scholarship concert canceled

The late legendary jazz singer Joe Williams, who made his home in Las Vegas for many years, was known as a kind and generous soul.

He also cared about up-and-coming musicians, and to that end he created an annual concert to raise money for scholarships for College of Southern Nevada students.

For two decades that scholarship concert has helped make the community college music program something special.

Unfortunately, this year’s concert has been canceled after organizers were unable to secure an appropriate venue for singing great Diane Schuur, who was devoting her time in honor of Joe.

Concert organizer Ed Foster says he’s deeply disappointed, but he added he plans to keep working to get the concert back on the schedule.

Joe’s memory is too important to let this scholarship die.
