MORNING LINE: MLK Day Parade leftover
January 20, 2009 - 9:59 am
I’ve watched a few Martin Luther King Jr. parades over the years, but Monday’s turnout downtown marked the largest presence of organized labor I’ve ever seen. Electricians, laborers, Teamsters, and others were not only represented, but highly visible.
The IBEW, in association with the Nevada Electrical Contractors Association, worked the crowd and handed out invitations to join its apprenticeship program.
It’s interesting to see how far local labor organizations have come in marketing themselves in recent years. It’s also a sign of how confident politically they are feeling these days.
