Desai’s legal fees mounting

Legal fees are mounting for Dr. Dipak Desai as he puts together his defense in the criminal case stemming from the hepatitis C outbreak.

On Oct. 15, U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Mike Nakagawa ordered Desai's estate to pay $113,453 to the law firm of Wright Stanish & Winckler for its work in defending the physician leading up to his June indictment.

Since then, the firm says in Bankruptcy Court papers that it has racked up another $206,790 in legal fees. Most of the money, about $162,000, was earned by lead attorney Richard Wright at $475 an hour.

The criminal case is still in its early stages, which means Wright Stanish & Winckler will be back for more in the months ahead.
