Leave early for Friday’s World Finals

Leave early if you’re heading to Friday night’s PBR World Finals at the Thomas & Mack Center.

President Barack Obama is scheduled to land at McCarran International Airport between 5 and 6 p.m. Friday, and that certainly will compound the bottleneck getting into Thomas & Mack because the airport is off Tropicana across from the main entrance to the arena.

The Finals start at 6 p.m., but there are a lot of activities and music outside the arena beginning at 3:30 p.m.

Get there early!

Rank bulls
Bulls for Thursday’s Round 2 will come from the “rank” pen and include Bones (Teague Bucking Bulls), Chicken on a Chain (Robinson/Tedesco/Larry the Cable Guy), Big Tex (Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger/Clay Struve), Bushwacker (Julio Moreno/Richard Oliveira), Major Payne (Robinson/Katich/Pinnacle Bull Group), Uncle Buck (Jeff Robinson/Cappello/Teague) and Voodoo Child (Robinson/Beutler/McNeely).

Toughest cowboy has tough bulls
Six-time PRCA world champion Cody Ohl has expanded to breeding bulls and the “Toughest Cowboy” has two competing in the PBR World Finals.

Ohl’s Pure Smoke and White Velvet were out in the opening round. Ryan McConnel rode White Velvet for 88.25 points and tied for fifth while Pure Smoke bucked off Kasey Hayes.

Ohl told me Thursday that he won’t have any bulls in the Dec. 2-11 National Finals Rodeo in which he has qualified for the 16th year.

He added, “but wait until next year.”
