In spurning Hillary, Obama screwed up big time

Update alert: CBS has asked YouTube to take down the McCain web ad referenced in the post below. But the link will still get to the ad via the McCain website.

Also, the Complete Las Vegan draws your attention to the Politico.com report that asked the $64 question: Would Hillary have Palin-proofed the Democratic ticket? Many think had Obama picked Hillary this race would be over. But he didn't. Obama picked Biden, which, as this blog pointed out when it happened, was a lousy choice. Brings nothing but downside the ticket. In addition, it opened the door for McCain to pick a game-changer in Palin.

According to Politico.com, "Palin's presence -- coupled with Clinton's absence -- may be altering one of the great verities of American politics: that women voters overwhelmingly favor Democrats."

One former Clinton adviser, speaking on the condition of anonymity to Politco.com said: "Obama people have got to be kicking themselves" for not choosing Clinton as his No. 2.

No kiddin'.

What it also shows that in the most important decision a presidential candidate can make, Obama displayed poor judgment and McCain displayed brilliant judgment. And that goes directly to the fitness of the candidate to be our next president. Not many are talking about that angle to the Palin stories, but they should. You can argue about politics all day, but in terms of helping their respective campaigns, Palin's a big and defining asset and Biden's nothing but a drag on the ticket. That tells you something real about McCain and Obama. Judgment matters.
