Rex Dart’s killer fall music playlist.

But one dude in particular, DJ Rex Dart, did such a good job with his response, that we decided to give him his own blog so that you can check it out in all its unabridged glory (complete with Youtube links).
“I’ll have you know that I have always thought that “fall” (October in particular) if by far the best time to be in Las Vegas. Due to the awesome weather several things occur, people’s attitudes seem lighten up. Driving in, around and out of town becomes fun again. There’s always a slew of great music and art shows happening Baseball finally gets interesting. Football is in full swing. And it all ends with possibly the greatest holiday ever... Halloween!
So with all that running through my head here is my October (fall) Playlist
1. “Castin’ My Spell,” 1959, The Johnny Otis Show. I first heard this track a couple of years ago, playing a Halloween gig at The Gypsy Den. My buddy Diego played it and I was instantly hooked. I rushed out to find as much about Johnny Otis as possible. A truly talented and fascinating guy.

2. “Settin’ the Woods on Fire,” 1952, Hank Williams. Keepin the spooky ‘50s theme going here’s good ‘ol Hank with a truly fun romp through towns and wilderness. That pedal steel always makes me think of driving through aspen trees when the leaves all start to fall. And I also love that it’s a goofy song about doing crazy fun things with someone you get a kick out of being with.
3. “Red Right Hand,” 1994, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. Fast Forwarding to the ‘90s with this amazingly creepy/beautiful song by Nick Cave. Heavy use of chimes and theremin will win me over any day of the week. I also remember thinking it was super cool when I heard it in the first ‘Scream’ film.

4. “Ghost in the Trees,” 2008, Thee Oh Sees. These guys are one of my two new favorite bands right now and put on one heck of a show. It’s like all their songs are played at such breakneck speeds and never seem slow down at all. They just played a few weeks ago at the Neon Reverb Festival and blew me away yet again.

5. “The Cult Song,” 2012, Shannon and the Clams. My other current favorite band. This trio possesses a truly unique sound (at least for this day and age). I caught them a few years ago and they came out dressed as fry cooks. Mix that with their Buddy Holly(ish) vibe and I was sold.
