Who you gonna call if you’re Santana?

Forgive my worship of Dan Aykroyd, but he was in town this weekend and I made him buy me a drink. (He's the nicest guy ever.) Here's the newsiest part of our hang:

Aykroyd didn't seem extremely optimistic about the possibility of filming a "Ghostbusters III."

"Right now, that's in a phase where it's gotta be perfect or it's not gonna happen. That's all I've got to say. If it's not perfect, it's not gonna happen."

There have been various reports in the trades that Bill Murray isn't greatly interested in a third "Ghostbusters" - but who knows. Hollywood is crazy.

Aykroyd was in Vegas to help launch Carlos Santana's residency at the House of Blues, which Aykroyd co-founded.

I feel as if Aykroyd rarely talks about the late great John Belushi publicly, so I was a little surprised when he told me about their early days of partying to Santana.

"John and I - many times - we had the Nakashima sound system, and we drove across country. And we were always blasting Santana," he said.

Aykroyd also said he "failed college to Carlos' " music.

"I enjoyed my college days. I took criminology, and abnormal psych, and deviant psych," he said. "That was actually a lot of fun. I like those subjects."

Aykroyd missed going to Woodstock to see Santana's rising star at the time.

"I couldn't get to Woodstock, because in ('69), I was working for the Canadian national railway as a warehouseman, unloading boxcars."

Aykroyd is in the upcoming film "The Campaign," co-starring Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis, written by Chris Henchy and Shawn Harwell, and directed by Jay Roach.

"It's going to be the hilarious hit comedy of the summer," Aykroyd promises. "It's so well-written. It's the best comedy I've read in 10 years."

And he is heavily promoting his Crystal Head Vodka, which won a double gold medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition in 2011.

These Crystal Head bottles are all over Vegas bars. People buy them for the skull shape. Aykroyd pitches the booze with the confident charisma of his characters in "Ghostbusters" and "Doctor Detroit."

"We won that double gold medal because there's no glycol, or no citrus oil, or no sugar in the beverage at all. Glycol is an antifreeze. Citrus oil is a bug exterminate in its raw form. And you don't need any more sugar in alcohol."

Then he asked: "Do you want one?"

So we drank his vodka. I toasted his genius for co-writing "The Blues Brothers" and "Spies Like Us" and starring in "Grosse Pointe Blank," "Trading Places," "Doctor Detroit" and "Saturday Night Live." Love that guy.

KIMMEL FOLLOW-UP

Last week, I wrote about Jimmy Kimmel dissing a former Vegas teacher. He did so during his stand-up gig at the White House Correspondents Dinner.

A lot of readers wrote in, telling me about the teacher, including one time when students pranked him by pouring honey on his podium.

You can check out reader letters on my blog via lvrj.com. I also posted a link through Twitter (@VegasAnonymous), which Kimmel nicely retweeted. Thanks, Jimmy.

SIGHTINGS

Maria Menounos and Derek Hough didn't just pose for static photos at Mandalay Bay pool Saturday. They played silly, with Hough making big jumps around her, like a kid. We need more of that at the pools. ... Apolo Ohno at Tiesto's DJ gig at Encore Beach Club on Sunday.
