CSN announces new theater season

The comedy "Art," by French playwright Yasmina Reza, kicks off the 2012-13 theater season at the College of Southern Nevada, 3200 E. Cheyenne Ave., Oct. 12-21.

CSN theater professor Robert D. Dunkerly will direct the Tony Award-winning play, in which battle lines are drawn and friendships tested over a 4-foot-by-5-foot white canvas painting.

The season also includees two weekends of one-act plays - Oct. 26-28 and April 12-14.

Douglas H. Baker and April Holladay direct Eugene O'Neill's "Ah, Wilderness!" Nov. 9-18. The Utah Shakespeare Festival touring ensemble visits CSN on Feb. 8-9 to present the Bard's "Romeo and Juliet."

The musical "Violet," with music by Jeanine Tesori and book and lyrics by Brian Crawley, will be presented April 19-28. Philip Shelburne will direct the acclaimed off-Broadway show from the '90s, which is based on Doris Betts' short story, "The Ugliest Pilgrim."

Scheduled for next summer, John Cariani's "Almost, Maine," directed by Mindy Woodhead, will be onstage July 5-14 . It is a romantic comedy that takes place in the middle of winter.
