The story: Twenty-two-year-old Oscar Grant’s (Michael B. Jordan) New Year’s Eve takes a tragic turn during a trip on a Bay Area train in 2008 in this fact-based drama.

The buzz: Winner of the Grand Jury Prize for dramatic feature and the Audience Award for U.S. dramatic film at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival, “Fruitvale Station” is already garnering serious, much-deserved Oscar buzz.
