UNLV hosting festival for new music

The second annual Nevada Encounters of New Music composers' symposium and festival kicks off Thursday at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

UNLV's new music ensemble NEXTET and the New York-based Talea Ensemble will perform faculty and student compositions in four concerts, scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Feb. 2 and 8 p.m. Feb. 3 in the Doc Rando Recital Hall of the Beam Music Center, 4505 S. Maryland Parkway.

Each concert is free.
