GRANT TO HELP GROUP DOCUMENT HISTORIC VALLEY SITES

The city Of Las Vegas Historic Preservation Commission has received a $100,000 grant to research and document historic buildings on Las Vegas Boulevard, Floyd Lamb Park at Tule Springs and other sites.

To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the city of Las Vegas, the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles, in cooperation with the Department of Cultural Affairs’ Commission of Museums and History, designed and issued special license plates.

The money from the sale of the plates paid for Las Vegas Centennial Celebration events in 2005. Now that the events have ended, profits are being directed toward a fund for historic preservation efforts in the city.

A lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender career fair is scheduled from noon to 4 p.m. Nov. 19 at The Center, 401 S. Maryland Parkway.

COUNTY SCHEDULES SURPLUS AUCTION

A Clark County government surplus auction is scheduled at 8 a.m. Nov. 22 at the county storage yard, 4320 Stephanie St.

Advance registration is required, and the items may be viewed from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov 20 and 21.

Items include vehicles, furniture, bicycles, office equipment and lost-and-found items from McCarran International Airport.

CENTER SEEKS VOLUNTEERS

The Center, 401 S. Maryland Parkway, is seeking volunteers to help with or teach workshops.

Classes are designed to help expand the well-being, knowledge and skills of participants.

Each session is held at The Center and led by a volunteer instructor. Topics covered may include financial stability, queer parenting, gender fluidity, foreign languages, resume building, computer skills, smoking cessation, fitness classes and positive thinking.

GIVE A MEAL PROGRAM TO HELP THREE SQUARE FOOD BANK

Bank of America and Feeding America are teaming up through Dec. 31 for the Give A Meal program, a matching donation campaign to fight hunger in Southern Nevada.

The program will benefit Three Square food bank. For every $1 donated, the Bank of America Charitable Foundation will give $2.
