OPPORTUNITY VILLAGE SEEKS FORMAL ATTIRE DONATIONS

Opportunity Village is asking the community to donate gently used formal dresses and menswear (suit jackets, pants, shirts and ties) for its Starlight Ball, set for April 17.

Donations are needed by April 3. Drop-off locations include the Opportunity Village Thrift Store, 390 S. Decatur Blvd., and the Englestad campus, 6050 S. Buffalo Drive.

FRIENDS OF RED ROCK CANYON ANNOUNCE PHOTO CONTEST

The 2015 Friends of Red Rock Canyon Photo Contest is slated to accept entries from 2 to 4 p.m. May 1 and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 2 and 3 at the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area Visitor Center, 1000 Scenic Loop Drive. The theme is Nature and Wildlife of the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. Categories are landscape, desert plants, wildlife, creative, monochromatic, and professional.

All photos must be framed. The entry fee is $10 per photo and $8 for Friends of Red Rock members. First-place winners receive $100, second place gets $75, and third place gets $50.

MOUNTAIN VIEW PRESBYTERIAN ANNOUNCES HOLY WEEK SERVICES

Mountain View Presbyterian Church, 8601 Del Webb Blvd., plans to host the following Holy Week services: Palm Sunday, 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. March 29; Holy Communion and the Seven Last Words of Jesus with the extinguishing of candles (Tenebrae), 7 p.m. April 2 in the sanctuary; Good Friday, noon April 3 in the chapel; and Easter Sunday, 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. April 5.

On March 29, a performance of “Behold! God’s Holy Lamb” by Mark Hayes, a telling of the story of the Passion by the combined chancel and gospel choirs and a performance by the Bells of Mountain View bell choir are planned, along with youths processing with palms. Child care is provided for both services.

RELENTLESS CHURCH ADDS TO SERVICES AT DOWNTOWN SUMMERLIN

Relentless Church, with weekly Sunday services held inside Regal Cinemas Downtown Summerlin 5, 2070 Park Centre Drive, is offering a double feature every Sunday. Starting March 29, Relentless Church plans weekly worship services at 8:45 a.m. in addition to its 10 a.m. service.

Relentless Church also plans a special inaugural Easter service for 8:45 and 10 a.m. April 5.

STATE FARM PROGRAM TO GIVE $25,000 GRANT

Neighbors across the country have the chance to help change their communities for the better through State Farm Neighborhood Assist. This philanthropic program awards 40 causes a $25,000 grant. Anyone in the U.S. can submit a cause through March 29. Ultimately, voters will decide which projects win, and up to 4,000 causes will be accepted. The State Farm Youth Advisory Board will identify the top 200 submissions, and the public can vote from May 14 to June 3. The nominations and votes will be accepted exclusively through a free Facebook app.

Since the program began, State Farm has awarded $3 million to 120 communities across North America, supporting a wide variety of causes.

NEW PASTOR JOINS MOUNTAIN VIEW PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH

Mountain View Presbyterian Church, 8601 Del Webb Blvd., recently announced that the Rev. David W. Dendy from Houston will become its new senior pastor on April 1.

Dendy brings more than 26 years of experience. He is married to Julie, and they have two children, Faith and Joshua, both 9, who are five months apart in age.

Dendy recently published a book titled “Seeing God at Work Every Day — The Forty-Day Challenge,” where he combines everyday observations of common interactions with spiritual insights.

NOMINATIONS SOUGHT FOR SENIOR CITIZEN OF THE YEAR

Nominations are being sought for Nevada’s Senior Citizen of the Year. Anyone 60 or older who has lived in Nevada for at least five years is eligible to be nominated.

The National Silver Haired Congress Nevada Delegation, in partnership with the Aging Services Directors Organization, established the award in 2013. Las Vegas resident Raymonde Fiol, 77, was the 2014 recipient.

WALGREENS COLLECTING DONATIONS FOR AFAN THROUGH MARCH

Las Vegas Valley Walgreens locations are collecting donations at its checkouts through March to support Aid for AIDS of Nevada’s 25th annual AIDS Walk, set for April 19 at Town Square Las Vegas, 6605 Las Vegas Blvd. South.

The walk is AFAN’s largest fundraising event, and Penn & Teller have again signed on as grand marshals and leaders of the Penn & Teller Challenge AIDS Walk Team. Registration to walk is free for all ages. A minimum donation of $25 per person is encouraged in celebration of the 25th anniversary and includes an official AIDS Walk commemorative item.

NOMINATIONS BEING TAKEN FOR CAI AWARD

Community Associations Institute’s Nevada Chapter, an educational organization representing homeowners associations, community managers and industry partners statewide, announces that it is accepting nominations for individuals and charities statewide. Formerly known as the Annual Hero’s Luncheon, it was redeveloped in 2012 to honor small charitable organizations that make a difference and are original to Nevada.

Winners are set to be honored during the chapter luncheon Sept. 8 at the Gold Coast, 4000 W. Flamingo Road.

LIFE TIME FITNESS TO HOST KIDS SUMMER CAMP

Life Time Fitness plans to host a kids summer camp at its Summerlin facility, 10721 W. Charleston Blvd.

Registration is being accepted at both its valley locations (the other is in Henderson at 121 Carnegie St.) from June 8 through Aug. 21. The camp is available to children ages 5 to 13 whose parents are members.

Life Time campers will experience 12 weeks of camp, each with its own theme, along with field trips and daily activities such as rock climbing, swimming, arts and crafts and team sports.

Signature camps will be offered at both locations from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. from Monday through Friday, priced at $210 per week or $50 per day. Specialty camps, designed for specific skills or demographics, also will be offered between June 15 and Aug. 14. Prices range from $100 to $270, with times and dates varying by location and respective camp.

FLAG FOOTBALL LEAGUE TAKING REGISTRATION

A flag football league for boys and girls ages 6 to 14 is taking registration for its Pee Wee (ages 6 to 8), Juniors (9 to 11) and Seniors (12 to 14) divisions.

The season is set to run through May 9. The top eight teams will continue on to a citywide championship tournament to be played May 18-21 at All American Park, 1551 S. Buffalo Drive. Fees are $85 per child, and uniforms are included. Awards and trophies will be handed out at the end of the season, and a playoff tournament is planned.

RAINBOW YOUTH SOCCER LEAGUE TAKING SIGNUPS

Rainbow Youth Soccer League signups are planned from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays at the Desert Breeze Soccer Complex snack bar, 8275 Spring Mountain Road.

To sign up, participants should bring a copy of their birth certificate, a wallet-size photo and $125 in cash, check or money order. The fee includes 10 games, a picture plaque and a uniform.

ADAPTIVE RECREATION PROGRAM TAKING REGISTRATION

The Beyond Recreation Program, for those ages 7 to 21 with disabilities, is planned from 1:30 to 6 p.m. daily Monday through Friday through June 8 at the Veterans Memorial Leisure Services Center, 101 N. Pavilion Center Drive.

Formerly known as the Lorenzi Adaptive Recreation Program, the Beyond Recreation Program provides recreational opportunities for youths with disabilities at two locations. Participants can enjoy a new recreation experience every week, including community outings, sports, games, arts and crafts, swimming and movies.

The program will be closed on holidays and March 30-April 3. The cost is $27 for one to three days, $36 for four days and $45 for five days.
