Parents often find themselves in a quandary about what to do with their children during summer vacation. Local child care programs, overnight camps and various specialty camps don’t always solve the problem because of cost and duration — a few weeks or a few hours per day.
Enter the Boys & Girls Clubs of Henderson with its fun and affordable day long Summer Program at locations across the valley. The cost is just a $10 or $20 annual membership fee per child at most locations.
The nonprofit organization that helps youth reach their potential offers the Summer Program at its clubs and partner locations in Henderson, Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, Southern Highlands and Summerlin.
“Summer is all about having fun and that’s our priority when scheduling summer activities for our members,” said Ken Rubeli, Boys & Girls Clubs of Henderson CEO. “We’ve created the perfect summer environment with stimulating and entertaining activities for young people in a safe place. They can enjoy themselves and meet new friends while also learning, discovering new passions, giving back to the community, and setting goals.”
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Henderson Summer Program has specially designed activities by age groups: 5 to 7, 8 to 9, 10 to 12, and 13 to 18. Hours at most locations are 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. Most locations begin June 10, and end Aug. 23. Exceptions are the Southern Highlands Club which starts June 6, and outreach programs at St. Anne Catholic School and George E. Harris Elementary begin June 17.
New this year, lunch and a snack will be included at all locations, except Southern Highlands where kids will bring their own.
Activities cover arts and crafts, sports, gym, computers, game room, learning center, teen lounge (ages 13-18), field trips and more.
Additionally there will be themed weekly programming providing exploration and discovery experiences related to the language, history and culture of different places around the world, plus the designated area’s food, arts and crafts, music, sports, dance and theater.
The Summer Program is available at the six permanent Boys & Girls Clubs of Henderson locations and three outreach partner programs. Registration is available throughout the summer. For information or registration, visit www.bgchenderson.org or contact:

Financial assistance is available for those who qualify. Rubeli added no child is ever turned away for economic reasons.
“Our Summer Program is truly a great affordable alternative to other summer camps and programs and day care services that are more expensive, and it’s a solution for many parents and grandparents, who also serve as caretakers,” Rubeli said.
“ Our Summer Program is fun for the kids. It’s perhaps one of the best kept secrets in town, one we want to share with the community,” he said.
A full-time professional staff, part-time staff and volunteers supervise the Summer Program.
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Henderson Summer Program is the largest provider to the Las Vegas Sun Summer Camp where children attend the special overnight camp for free.
