No shortage of summer camps

There is no shortage of opportunities for parents to find just the right camp for their children this summer. From sports to theater to traditional arts and crafts, activities are planned across the valley. Here is a sampling of the offerings.

The University of Nevada Cooperative Extension will offer 4-H Science, Technology, Engineering and Math day camps for ages 7-11 from June 24 to 26, and for ages 9-14 from July 15 to 17 at the Lifelong Learning Center, 8050 Paradise Road. Camps will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and include activities in plant and animal sciences, health and nutrition, computer science, aerospace and more. The fee is $60 per session and includes snacks and activities. Sibling registration is $45 per session. Prior 4-H experience is not required (702-257-5538).

Discovery Children’s Museum, 360 Promenade Place, will offer summer camp sessions from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays from July 7 to Aug. 1. The camp will offer fun activities focusing on science, art and more. Registration is $180 per camp session per week (; 702-382-5437).

The Smith Center’s Camp Broadway returns for its third year. Classic Camp will offer a full day of musical theater programming for ages 10-17 from July 21 to 25. The fee is $695. Shining Stars is a half-day camp of musical theater creative play offered in either morning or afternoon sessions for ages 6-9 from July 7 to 11. The fee is $450 (

The 12th annual Hoops for Hope Basketball Camp will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 17-19 at Doolittle Community Center, 1950 N. J St. A parent workshop will be at 10 a.m. July 19. The camp will teach techniques and fundamentals of basketball, life skills, and the importance of eating healthy and exercising daily. Registration is free, but it is required. Open to students from fourth- to eighth-grade. Students must have completed the fourth grade. Registration is open through July 6 or until all spaces are filled (; 702-778-3315). Springs Preserve, 333 S. Valley View Blvd., will offer summer adventure camps for ages 6-12 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays from June 9 to Aug. 22. The camps will feature crafts, games, acting, science experiments and other activities. The fee is $200 per week ($180 for members). Attendees will be divided into age groups 6-8 and 9-12 (; 702-822-7700).

Charleston Heights Arts Center, 800 S. Brush St., will offer its 19th annual Youth Summer Dance Camp for ages 12-18. The camp will be from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays July 7 to Aug. 1. Registration is open through July 5. The fee is $275 ($250 with early registration before June 14). The camp will include training in contemporary ballet, modern, hip-hop, jazz, lyrical and more (; 702-229-6383).

The Rainbow Company Theatre Camps will be held Mondays through Fridays from June 16 to 27. The morning session will be from 8 a.m. to noon for ages 8-11, and the afternoon session will be from 1 to 5 p.m. for ages 12-16. The camp will include theater games, acting exercises, improvisation and rehearsal skills. The two-week total fee is $225 (; 702-229-6553 or 702-229-6383).

The city of Henderson will offer Summer Kids Zone for ages 5-12 Mondays through Fridays from June 9 to Aug. 22 at various recreation centers, and June 9 to Aug. 8 at Greenspun Junior High School. Activities will include arts and crafts, swimming, games, drama, music, fitness and health, field trips and special events. The city of Las Vegas will offer Kids Kamp for ages 6-11 and Teen Kamp for ages 12-15 Mondays through Fridays at various community centers from June 9 to Aug. 15. The fee is $100 per child per week. For more information and registration, visit

YMCA of Southern Nevada will offer Y Summer Day Camps for ages 3-15 Mondays through Fridays from June 9 to Aug. 22 at all four YMCA locations. Weekly registration fees start at $150. For camp program guides and registration, visit

Clark County Parks and Recreation will offer summer day camp programs for ages 6-12 Mondays through Fridays from June 9 to Aug. 22 at various recreation centers. The fee per child is $15 per day or $70 per week. Safekey Summer Camp will also be offered for ages 6-12 Mondays through Fridays from June 9 to Aug. 15 at select schools.
