Deaths



Robert Adam

Robert Douglas "Doug" Adam, 86 died Feb. 13 in Escondido, Calif.

He was born July 21, 1914, in Milwaukee. A Navy veteran of World War II, he was the owner of AAA Tax Service, a former 30-year resident of Las Vegas and a former five-year resident of Mesquite.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis of Escondido; sons, Chris Lipsett and Steve Lipsett, both of New York City; daughter, Sheri Marsh of San Diego; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Telophase Cremation Society, San Marcos, Calif., handled arrangements.

Randy Adams-Johnston

Randy G. Adams-Johnston, 47, died Monday.

He was born Oct. 31, 1953, in Madison, Wis. A dealer in gaming, he was a 36-year resident of Las Vegas.

He is survived by his mother, Joyce Johnston; brother, Robert Adams; and sisters, Renee Johnston and Raelene Palmer; all of Las Vegas.

Services are private. American Burial & Cremation Services handled arrangements.

Irene Barnett

Irene Barnett, 87, died Tuesday.

She was born Sept. 23, 1913, in Faulkmills, Texas. A homemaker, she was a 40-year resident of Las Vegas and a member of Eastern Star.

She is survived by her daughter, Martha Whittenburg of Las Vegas; son, George of Denver; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. with a service at noon Saturday at Palm Mortuary-Eastern. Burial will follow at Palm Valley View Memorial Park.

Riley Bates

Riley A. Bates, 26, died Feb. 10 at home.

He was born Oct. 5, 1974, in Hawaii. A kennel attendant, he was a 12-year resident of Las Vegas.

He is survived by his fiancee, Naomi Stachowsky; father, Robert Sr.; mother, Rose Gonzales; brother, Robert Jr.; and sisters, Regina Costales and Roxanne.

Visitation will be from noon to 6 p.m. Friday at Garden Memorial Funeral Home.

Kenneth Brown

Kenneth Warren Brown, 78, died Tuesday.

He was born Jan. 21, 1923, in Utah. An Army Air Corps veteran, he was a resident of Pahrump.

He is survived by his wife, Odile of Pahrump; sons, Arnold, Daniel and Rodney, all of Montana, Bryan Gilbert of Oregon and Robert of California; stepdaughter, Tami Coburn of Montana; stepsons, Ricky Chuter of California, Ronald Chuter of Las Vegas and Chris Chuter of Montana; brothers, Ronald of Washington and Kent of Las Vegas; sister, Hope Larson of Montana; 27 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Pahrump Family Mortuary handled arrangements.

Rochelle Brown

Rochelle Belle Brown, 54, died Sunday.

She was born March 26, 1946, in Philadelphia. A homemaker, she was a seven-year resident of Pahrump, a former resident of Las Vegas, a foster mother and a supporter of research for HIV and the Pediatric AIDS Foundation.

She is survived by her daughters, Rhonda Richards of Henderson and Shaina of Pahrump; son, David Cohen; mother, Freda Cohen; both of Las Vegas; brother, Irv Cohen of Honolulu; sister, Hannah Riceberg of San Antonio; and four grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Neptune Society of Nye County in Pahrump. The family requests memorial donations be made to Nevada Rural AIDS Project, P.O. Box 141, Pahrump, Nev., 89041, or Pediatric AIDS Foundation.

Valerie Diaz

Valerie S. Diaz, 41, died Monday at a local hospital.

She was born Feb. 14, 1960, in Las Vegas. A homemaker, she was a lifetime resident.

She is survived by her husband, Glenmore; son, Gareth Dupree; daughters, Valneisia and Amanda; father, Ellie Dupree; brothers, Hugh Dupree and Lodis Dupree; all of North Las Vegas; sisters, Thelma Monroe of Oakland, Calif., and Velma Grubbs and Birdia Dupree, both of North Las Vegas; and a grandchild.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at American Burial & Cremation Services with services at 11 a.m. Saturday at Portals to Glory Church of God in Christ. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.

John Duffy

John Edward Duffy, 70, died Monday at a Las Vegas hospital.

He was born Oct. 24, 1930, in Missouri. A Coast Guard veteran, he was a sales manager for a concrete pipe company and a 10-year resident of Las Vegas.

He is survived by his sons, Mike and Patrick; and sister, Denise Dickerson.

Francisco

Ferrer-Benetiz

Francisco Ferrer-Benetiz, 33, died Jan. 29.

He was born July 30, 1967, in Havana. A maintenance worker for an apartment complex, he was a 10-year resident of Las Vegas.

He is survived by his parents, Antonio Benetiz and Olga Ferrer; sister, Nancy Benetiz; all of Cuba; and brothers, Alejandro Benetiz of Las Vegas, and Angel Benetiz, Fidel Benetiz and Enrique Benetiz, all of Cuba.

Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Davis Paradise Valley Funeral Home with graveside services at 11 a.m. Monday at Paradise Memorial Gardens.

Julian Gomez Jr.

Julian Gomez Jr., 39, died Tuesday at Nathan Adelson Hospice.

He was born May 21, 1961, in Lorain, Ohio. An Army veteran, he was a cook in a restaurant and a 12-year resident of Las Vegas.

He is survived by his wife, Maria; daughter, Angelica; both of Las Vegas; sons, Julian III of Lorain and Ernesto of Las Vegas; parents, Julian and Gloria, both of Lorain; sisters, Zulma Knapp of Berea, Ohio, Alicia Harder, Christine Capetillo and Elva, all of Las Vegas, and Margaret Figueroa and Laurie Phillips, both of Lorain; and grandmother, Gudelia Rivera of Puerto Rico.

Visitation will be from 4:30 to 7 p.m. with a rosary at 6 p.m. today at Affordable Cremation & Burial Service, where services will be at 11 a.m. Friday. Graveside services will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery. The family requests memorial donations be made to the hospice.

Willie Harris

Willie Mae Harris, 67, died Monday at a local hospital.

She was born Dec. 22, 1933, in Tallulah, La., and was a 49-year resident of Las Vegas.

She is survived by her daughter, Shirley; sons, William and Noel; mother, Maggie Gordon; brothers, Herman Kyle Sr. and Curtis Gordon; sister, Dorrie Jenkins; all of Las Vegas; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. today at American Burial & Cremation Services, where services will be at 11 a.m. Friday. Burial is private.

Beverly Hernandez

Beverly Hernandez, 58, died Tuesday at a Las Vegas hospital.

She was born Oct. 1, 1942, in Duluth, Minn. A homemaker, she was an eight-year resident of Henderson.

She is survived by her husband, Guadalupe of Henderson; sons, Richard, Ronald and Robert, all of Panama City Beach, Fla., and Raymond of Henderson; mother, Marie Schleski; sister, Betty Brown; both of Duluth; brothers, Terry Schleski of Denver and Tim Schleski of Los Angeles; and nine grandchildren.

Services will be held in Panama City, Fla. Palm Mortuary-Eastern handled arrangements.

Sharon Jackson

Sharon Jackson, 52, died Feb. 15 at a Las Vegas hospital.

She was born June 21, 1948, in Oakland, Calif. A social worker, she was a 26-year resident of Las Vegas.

She is survived by her husband, Milton; daughters, Nekisha Jenkins and Nyiesha; sons, Robin Haywood, Richard Jenkins, Jonathan and Marlon Amos; brother, Toliver Armstrong II; all of Las Vegas; sisters, Lillian Oliver and Katherine Garrett, both of Los Angeles, and Vera Armstrong and Fentress Adams, both of Las Vegas; and eight grandchildren.

Visitation will be from noon to 7 p.m. today at Harrison Ross Mortuary, where services will be at noon Friday. Burial is private.

Peggy Jacobsen

Peggy Lee Jacobsen, 49, died Tuesday in Amargosa Valley.

She was born March 9, 1951, in Anderson, Ind. A homemaker, she was a five-year resident of Crystal and a former resident of Las Vegas.

She is survived by her sons, Christopher Faupel, Michael Faupel and William; mother, Joyce Riser; all of Las Vegas; and two grandchildren.

Services are private. Neptune Society of Nye County handled arrangements.

Marsha Krafczyk

Marsha M. Krafczyk, 56, died Monday at Nathan Adelson Hospice-West.

She was born Sept. 15, 1944, in Long Beach, Calif. A retail clerk, she was a 40-year resident of Las Vegas.

She is survived by her husband, Roman of Las Vegas; sons, Phillip Gordon and William Gordon, both of Las Vegas, and John Gordon of San Francisco; parents, Dorothy Morley and Victor Morley; brother, Michael Morley; all of Las Vegas; sisters, Donna Jean Dye of Fresno, Calif., and Sharon Rasmusson of Las Vegas; and four grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Palm Mortuary-Cheyenne.

Anna Mack

Anna Hercheck Mack, 94, died Tuesday.

She was born Dec. 18, 1906, in Oklahoma City. A retired secretary for a hardware company, she was a 15-year resident of Las Vegas.

She is survived by her son, Tom of Flowery Branch, Ga.; and daughter, Marylyn Butler of Zellwood, Fla.

Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. today at Palm Mortuary-Jones with graveside services at 10 a.m. Friday at Palm Memorial Park-Northwest.

Edward McCann

Edward McCann, 40, died Monday.

He was born Nov. 30, 1960, in Detroit. A Marine Corps veteran, he was a supervisor in a casino and a 10-year resident of Las Vegas.

He is survived by his wife, Laure; daughter, Racheal; son, Mitchell; all of Las Vegas; mother, Olga; sister, Donna Decoste; both of Michigan; and brothers, David of Minnesota and Gerald of Michigan.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at St. Joseph Husband of Mary Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. with an additional service at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Palm Mortuary-Jones.

Robert McCormack

Visitation for Robert Anthony McCormack, who died Sunday, will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Palm Mortuary-Eastern, where services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday. Burial is private. The family requests memorial donations be made to Nevada Donor Network.

Mary Jean Mevis

Mary Jean Mevis, 75, died Wednesday.

She was born Feb. 15, 1926, in Battle Creek, Mich. A classified advertising sales representative for the Las Vegas Review-Journal, she was a 32-year resident of Pahrump and a former resident of Overton.

She is survived by her daughter, Cathy of Oregon; sons, Steven, Bruce and Mike, all of Pahrump, and Paul of Oregon; mother, Catherine Barger; and sister, Betty; both of Florida; 14 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Galen Moscati

Galen "Ray" Moscati, 90, died Feb. 12 at a Las Vegas hospital.

He was born Dec. 24, 1910. A Navy veteran of World War II, he was a retired commercial artist and a 44-year resident of Las Vegas.

He is survived by his wife, Mary of Las Vegas; son, Kenneth of Germantown, Mass.; daughter, Barbara Karuzas of Liverpool, N.Y.; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Palm Mortuary-Jones.

Robert Poghen

Robert Poghen, 43, died Sunday.

He was born June 26, 1957, in Chicago. A cement mason in construction, he was a 23-year resident of Las Vegas and a member of Wings Over Nevada.

He is survived by his wife, Cathy; sons, Jason, Robert and Christopher; mother, Beverly; brother, James; and sister, Jacquie Murray; all of Las Vegas.

Memorial services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the dry lake bed off Highway 95. Nevada Funeral Service-Nevada Cremation or Burial Society handled arrangements.

Gordon Ray Jr.

Gordon F. Ray Jr., 64, died Sunday at a Las Vegas hospital.

He was born Dec. 12, 1936, in Danville, Ill., an Air Force veteran of the Korean War, he was a retired missile technician for the Department of Defense, a seven-year resident of Las Vegas, past master of Ashler Masonic Lodge 894, and a member of Grande Lodge Line AF&AM, Mosiah Temple of Shriners and 32nd Degree Scottish Rite.

He is survived by his wife, Geraldine of Las Vegas; daughter, Kimberly Stock of Copperas Cove, Texas; sister, Sue Clausen of Danville; brothers, Lewis of Dolton, Ill., Wayne of Las Vegas, Larry and Lester, both of Danville, and Gary of Lake Station, Ind.; and two grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until services at 5 p.m. today at Palm Mortuary-Jones. The family requests memorial donations be made to American Cancer Society.

Gordon Duvall Rayborn-Bradshaw, 39, died Friday.

He was born Oct. 19, 1961, in Las Vegas. A sanitation engineer, he was a lifetime resident.

He is survived by his mother, Faye Bradshaw of North Las Vegas; father, Curtis Rayborn of Collins, Miss.; brother, Todd Bradshaw of Portland, Ore.; sisters, Fay Bradshaw of North Las Vegas and Sheritha Bradshaw-Norris of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and grandmother, Effie Fairley of Collins.

Linda Thebaut

Linda M. Thebaut, 68, died Tuesday at a Las Vegas hospital.

She was born Aug. 25, 1932, in Coldwater, Mich. A retired bookkeeper, she was a four-year resident of Las Vegas.

She is survived by her husband, James of Las Vegas; son, Mick Adams of Romulus, N.Y.; brother, Bertrand Sibley of Greendale, Wis.; and two grandchildren.

Mattie Webb

Visitation for Mattie B. Webb, who died Tuesday, will be from 1 to 7 p.m. Friday at Palm Mortuary-Downtown with services at 11 a.m. Saturday at Pentecostal Church of God in Christ. Burial will follow at Palm Memorial Park.

Susan Weiss

Susan Audrey Weiss, 91, died Monday.

She was born May 17, 1909, in Iowa. A homemaker, she was a one-year resident of Las Vegas.

She is survived by her sons, William and David; sister, Mavis Paul; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Holt Williams Sr.

Holt Glen Williams Sr., 60, died Tuesday at a Las Vegas hospital.

He was born Aug. 3, 1940, in Linden, Texas. An Army veteran, he was an overload driver and master plumber and an 11-year resident of Pahrump.

He is survived by his wife, Donna of Pahrump; sons, George of McKinney, Texas, and Holt Jr. of Pahrump; daughters, Mary Carson of Irving, Texas, and Karen Wood of Pahrump; brother, Robert of Colorado Springs, Colo.; sisters, Carol Cox of Longview, Texas, and Mary Albright of Tawakoni, Texas; 16 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services are private. Neptune Society of Nye County handled arrangements.

John Williams

John Williams, 65, died Tuesday at a Henderson hospital.

He was born April 1, 1935, in Indianapolis. An Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War, he was a retired technician in communications, a 10-year resident of Las Vegas and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He is survived by his wife, Maureen of Las Vegas; daughter, Penny of Henderson; son, Andrew of San Diego; brother, Larry of Indianapolis; and three grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Palm Mortuary-Eastern with graveside services at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery. The family requests memorial donations be made to American Cancer Society.

Helen Wuehle

Helen Jean Wuehle, 75, died Monday.

She was born Dec. 5, 1925, in Thompson, Mich. A retired teacher, she was a five-year resident of Las Vegas.

She is survived by her husband, Edwin of Las Vegas; daughter, Michele of Calumet, Mich.; and son, Martin of Tapiola, Mich.

Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. today at Community Lutheran Church. Palm Mortuary-Eastern handled arrangements.

John Yonkey

John David Yonkey, 32, died Monday.

He was born Aug. 20, 1968, in Seoul, South Korea. A jewelry store manager, he was a 26-year resident of Las Vegas.

He is survived by his parents, John and Sung; and sister, Lisa; all of Las Vegas.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to noon with services at 1 p.m. Friday at Palm Mortuary-Eastern. Burial will follow at Palm Valley View Memorial Park.
