Deaths



Walter Barnett

Walter L. Barnett, 70, died Thursday at a Henderson hospital.

He was born June 24, 1931, in Oklahoma City. A retired salesman in television and radio, he was a 15-year resident of Las Vegas.

He is survived by his wife, Anna; son, Earl; both of Las Vegas; daughters, Lou Ann Salsbury of Henderson and Teresa Colby of Las Vegas; sister, Lucille Kramer of Denver; brothers, Tony of Hermitage, Tenn., and Earl of Broomfield, Colo.; and three grandchildren.

Visitation will start at noon Wednesday at Palm Mortuary-Eastern with graveside services at 2 p.m. at Palm Valley View Memorial Park.

John Barrucco

John Nicholas Barrucco, 78, died Jan. 17.

He was born July 21, 1923, in Brooklyn, N.Y. An Army veteran, he was a foreman for a bakery, a two-year resident of Pahrump and a former resident of Las Vegas.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia of Pahrump; son, John Beck of Kingsbury, N.J.; daughters, Nancy Beck of Pahrump and Cathryn Beck of Lake Katrine, N.Y.; and six grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Neptune Society of Nye County, Pahrump.

Robert Bauer

Robert Bauer, 66, died Saturday at a Las Vegas hospital.

He was born Dec. 22, 1935, in New York City. An Air Force veteran, he was a retired warehouseman in the aviation industry and a 15-year resident of Las Vegas.

He is survived by his wife, Arlene of Las Vegas.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Affordable Cremation & Burial Service.

Arthur Beagley

Arthur E. Beagley, 67, died Jan. 17.

He was born May 15, 1934, in Colorado. A chef, he was a 42-year resident of Las Vegas.

He is survived by his companion, Hazel Flippin; sons, George of South Dakota and Harlie of Washington; daughter, Tammy Ecott of Nevada; sisters, Virginia Gregory of Oklahoma and Helen Stramel of Kansas; and eight grandchildren.

Services will be at noon Thursday at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Hites Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Audrey Cathey

Audrey L. Cathey, 68, died Monday at a Las Vegas hospital.

She was born Feb. 16, 1933, in Los Angeles. A retired social worker, she was an eight-year resident of Las Vegas.

She is survived by her husband, Kenneth; daughter, Lori Dickinson; both of Las Vegas; sons, Michael Abreu of Ontario, Calif., Tony Abreu of Covina, Calif., and Jeff Abreu of Phoenix; sisters, Ellen Golding of North Hollywood, Calif., and Marjorie Hunter of Las Vegas; and six grandchildren.

Affordable Cremation & Burial Service handled arrangements.

Irma Cohn

Irma Cohn, 77, died Sunday.

She was born Nov. 18, 1924, in Germany. A server in a casino, she was a 26-year resident of Las Vegas.

She is survived by her daughters, Linda Strange, Peggy Darland and Dinah Smith, all of Las Vegas; sons, Dan of Hanover Park, Ill., and Frank of Las Vegas; brother, Bob Solomon; sister, Wally Markus; both of Michigan; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. today at Bunkers Mortuary. The family requests memorial donations be made to a charity of choice.

Leonard Covel

Leonard Robert Covel, 74, died Jan. 14 at a Las Vegas hospital.

He was born April 29, 1927, in Ohio. A Navy veteran, he was the owner of a carpet store and a three-year resident of Las Vegas.

He is survived by his wife, Janice; sons, Jonathan and Gregory; daughter, Cynthia; sister, Estelle Borowitz; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Memorial services will be at 11:20 a.m. Friday at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Desert Memorial Cremation & Burial Society handled arrangements.

L. Lynne Craig

L. Lynne Barlow Craig, 34, died Sunday.

She was born May 15, 1967, in Henderson. A social worker, she was a resident of Las Vegas and a former resident of Logandale.

She is survived by her husband, Steven; son, Dallas; both of Las Vegas; father, Doug Barlow; brothers, Kent, Steven and Justin; all of Logandale; sisters, Tracy Christensen of Overton and Carolyn Burkett of Las Vegas; and grandmother, Nola Spooner of Overton.

Visitation will be one hour before services at 1 p.m. Friday at the Logandale Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Burial will follow at Logandale Cemetery under the direction of Metcalf Mortuary.

Bessie Harber

Bessie E. Harber, 94, died Jan. 15 in Victor Valley, Calif.

She was born Dec. 24, 1907, in New Orleans. A homemaker, she was a former resident of Las Vegas and pastor of St. Anthony Spiritual Temple.

She is survived by her sons, Kenneth Matthews and Glenn Jackson, both of Las Vegas, Edward Jackson of Hesperia, Calif., and Ike Jackson of San Bernardino, Calif.; daughter, Warner Robinson of Las Vegas; 29 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Services were held Monday at Palm Mortuary-Downtown.

Robert Hobron

Robert Hobron, 69, died Saturday.

He was born Aug. 6, 1932, in New London, Conn. A teacher, he was a 10-year resident of Las Vegas.

He is survived by his wife, Winifred of Las Vegas.

The family requests memorial donations be made to Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum Tribute Fund, 2021 N. Kinney Road, Tucson, Ariz., 85743-8918. Affordable Cremation & Burial Service handled arrangements.

Richard Hobson

Richard D. Hobson, 68, died Saturday at a Summerlin hospital.

He was born Jan. 18, 1934, in Flint, Mich. A Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War, he was a 10-year resident of Las Vegas and a member of University of Michigan Alumni Association.

He is survived by his wife, Joann; daughters, Tracey Leighton and Pamela; all of Las Vegas; sons, Clifford of Flint, Randall of Las Vegas and Michael of Jettenbach, Germany; sisters, Betty Lewis of Greensburg, Pa., Jill Markey of Clairmont, Fla., and Vickie Boeke of Midland, Mich.; brothers, James and Robert, both of Birch Run, Mich.; and 10 grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until services at noon Wednesday at Palm Mortuary-Jones.

Freddie Lawrence

Freddie Clive Lawrence, 80, died Sunday.

He was born Aug. 23, 1921, in Milan, Mo. A retired Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War, he was a four-year resident of Las Vegas.

He is survived by his daughter, Nickey Ceccarelli of Las Vegas; brother, Jake of Sedalia, Mo.; and two grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Paradise Memorial Gardens. Davis Paradise Valley Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Anna Layton

Anna Virginia Layton died Saturday.

Born in Marion, Ind., she was a retired cashier in a hotel and a 39-year resident of Las Vegas.

She is survived by her daughters, Karen Mirabelli and Cindy; sister, Helen Labadie; all of Las Vegas; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services are private. Nevada Funeral Service-Nevada Cremation or Burial Society handled arrangements.

Lillian Leonard

Lillian Elizabeth Leonard, 69, died Thursday.

She was born Sept. 5, 1932, in New York. A food server, she was a three-year resident of Henderson.

She is survived by her son, Thomas Edward; daughters, Mary Jackson and Patricia Wallenstein; brother, Raymond Faherty; sister, Joan Lodise; and seven grandchildren.

Desert Memorial Cremation & Burial Society handled arrangements.

June McDonald

June V. McDonald, 73, died Thursday.

She was born Aug. 11, 1928, in Chicago. The retired owner of a tree trimming and removal business, she was a 10-year resident of Las Vegas.

She is survived by her daughter, Cyd Allred; brother, Del Bunch Jr.; a grandson; and a great-grandchild.

Neptune Society of Nevada handled arrangements.

Richard Morgan

Richard Morgan, 90, died Jan. 12.

He was born Jan. 1, 1912, in Frederick, Okla. An Army veteran of World War II, he was a mason laborer for the union and a 55-year resident of Las Vegas.

He is survived by his wife, Helen; sons, Curtis and James; daughters, Josephine DeMille, Shirley Stevenson, Joyce Moore, Doris Dobbins and Debra; all of Las Vegas; brother, Wallace of Fresno, Calif.; sister, Dora Mitchell of Slayton, Texas; 27 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday at Davis Paradise Valley Funeral Home followed by services at 1:20 p.m. at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

Bertha Oberstein

Bertha Oberstein, 87, died Friday.

She was born Aug. 21, 1914, in New York. A homemaker, she was a resident of Las Vegas.

Burial will be in New York. Hites Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Felix Reyes

Felix R. Reyes, 67, died Monday at a Las Vegas hospital.

He was born Aug. 2, 1934, in Puerto Rico. A retired taxi driver, he was a 10-year resident of Las Vegas.

He is survived by his wife, Harriett of Las Vegas; four brothers; and four sisters.

Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. today at Palm Valley View Memorial Park. Palm Mortuary-Eastern handled arrangements.

Rosel Seastrand

Rosel Ruesch Seastrand, 69, died Sunday.

She was born Dec. 20, 1932, in Hurricane, Utah. A homemaker, she was a 42-year resident of North Las Vegas and a member of the board of directors of Jim Seastrand Helping Hands.

She is survived by her sons, Scott, Douglas and Russell, all of Las Vegas; daughter, Pam Shelline of St. George, Utah; sisters, Zona Wright of Hurricane and Joy Jordan of Fredonia, Ariz.; brother, David Ruesch of Hurricane; and 19 grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Civic Center and Tonopah chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will follow at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery. The family requests memorial donations be made to Jim Seastrand Helping Hands, 2225 Civic Center Drive, Suite 240-B, North Las Vegas, Nev., 89030. Bunkers Mortuary handled arrangements.

Jerome Silverstein

Jerome Silverstein, 81, died Monday.

He was born Sept. 29, 1920, in Brooklyn, N.Y. An Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, he was the retired owner of a sandwich shop and a 15-year resident of Las Vegas.

He is survived by his wife, Eileen of Las Vegas; daughter, Patti Berry of Henderson; sons, Marshall of Vista, Calif., and Jan of Las Vegas; brother, Gerald of Boynton Beach, Fla.; sister, Rhoda Rose of Las Vegas; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Davis Paradise Valley Funeral Home followed by burial at Paradise Memorial Gardens.

Hertha Stone

Hertha Stone, 94, died Monday.

She was born March 15, 1907, in Germany. A retired reservation desk worker for a hotel-casino, she was a resident of Las Vegas.

Memorial services will be at 6 p.m. today at Davis Paradise Valley Funeral Home.

Vonnetta Villanueva

Vonnetta M. Villanueva, 49, died Sunday at a North Las Vegas hospital.

She was born Feb. 27, 1952, in California. A saleswoman in a department store, she was a 20-year resident of North Las Vegas.

She is survived by her husband, Sal of North Las Vegas; mother, Shirley Clancy of Las Vegas; sisters, Victoria Gonzalez of Los Banos, Calif., and Sherry Ryan, Valerie Garcia and Carolyn Wilcox, all of Las Vegas; and brother, Stanley Clancy Jr. of Los Banos.

Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Palm Mortuary-Downtown.

Ina Zipper

Ina L. Zipper, 60, died Jan. 12 at home.

She was born June 11, 1941, in Brooklyn, N.Y., and was a 21-year resident of North Las Vegas.

She is survived by her son, Brian of Portland, Ore.; and parents, Max Weiss and Bella Weiss.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Nathan Adelson Hospice-West. The family requests memorial donations be made to the hospice. Desert Memorial Cremation & Burial Society handled arrangements.
