Rhodes seeks exemptions for land near Red Rock
REVIEW-JOURNAL
Developer Jim Rhodes has appealed a decision with the hope that county commissioners on May 21 will consider exemptions he needs to build a housing development on 2,400 acres next to scenic Red Rock Canyon.
Clark County planners on Friday notified Rhodes that the zoning applications he filed earlier in the week would have to be resubmitted under a set of procedures that could take up to year to complete.
In his appeal filed Wednesday, Rhodes asked that the commission schedule his zoning applications immediately so they are voted on moments before the commission considers a proposal that would severely limit Rhodes' development plans.
The ordinance proposed by Commissioner Mark James would limit housing construction on Rhodes' property to one home on every two acres. Rather than build only 1,500 homes, Rhodes said he prefers to build closer to 5,400 homes, but he needs commission-approved zoning variances to do so.
Rhodes' appeal was under consideration by county administrators and the county's legal staff Thursday, county spokesman Erik Pappa said.
