A 39-year-old man died Tuesday morning after being stabbed in an argument near the Las Vegas Golf Club.

Witnesses told Las Vegas police investigators the attack happened about 6:15 a.m. during an argument inside a home on the 4800 block of Elmhurst Lane, near Decatur Boulevard and Washington Avenue.

The victim was arguing with several men when he was stabbed in the chest. He died at University Medical Center. His name was withheld pending family notification.

One of the witnesses followed the attacker to a nearby convenience store and called police.

Officers arrested Andres Sandoval, 36, and booked him into jail on one count of murder, police said.

BABY'S DEATH

Trial delayed for man accused of killing girl

The trial of a man charged with murdering his infant daughter has been delayed until March.

James Meegan was charged in the 1990 death of his daughter, Francine.

Authorities said James Meegan shook the girl to death in a fit of rage when she would not stop crying.

Authorities said Meegan's wife, Lillian Meegan put the baby's body in a suitcase, and the couple took the body to rural Arizona, where James Meegan burned the remains, prosecutors said.

Cowboys found the baby's charred body in 1990 in a ravine, but more than five years passed before authorities linked the body to the Meegan family.

Lillian Meegan pleaded guilty to felony child neglect and received an 18-year sentence.

James Meegan was convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison in 1996, but the conviction was overturned by the Nevada Supreme Court in December 2004 because of a faulty jury instruction.

James Meegan, who has professed his innocence, was scheduled to go trial Tuesday.

ROUTE 160 ACCIDENT

Man, woman injured when rig rear-ends car

A man and woman were seriously hurt Tuesday afternoon when a tractor-trailer rear-ended their car on state Route 160, the Highway Patrol said.

The pair were riding in an westbound gray Acura about 3 p.m. when the car started to turn left toward Eagle Ranch Drive, just east of state Route 159, before it veered back into the travel lane and stopped, trooper Kevin Honea said.

He said a van behind the car swerved to avoid the car, but the tractor-trailer behind the van plowed into the car.

The man was partially thrown from the car. He was in critical condition at University Medical Center. The woman went to UMC with less severe injuries.

BLUE DIAMOND ROAD

Authorities identify driver killed in collision

A 55-year-old motorist killed in a head-on collision early Monday on Blue Diamond Road near Hualapai Way has been identified as Roger Erickson, the Clark County coroner's office said.

Erickson was driving in a Saturn about 12:05 a.m. when the driver of a minivan crossed the center median and struck his vehicle, Highway Patrol Sgt. Mike Nihei said.

He said the minivan's driver, who was taken to the hospital with major injuries, will be cited for failure to maintain a travel lane.
