NORM: Foxx celebrates birthday and more

Jamie Foxx sings Thursday at Tao at The Venetian, while surrounded by partyers.

Oscar winner Jamie Foxx shared more than just his birthday with thousands of his new best friends on Thursday.

Foxx, who turned 39 on Wednesday, treated big crowds at Jet (The Mirage) and Tao (The Venetian) like friends and family while also celebrating a Golden Globe nomination for best musical or comedy picture for his latest film, "Dreamgirls."

At Jet, scene of the Grammy kickoff party sponsored by People magazine and The Recording Academy, Foxx jumped off the stage and poured tequila shots down the throats of a group of his female admirers while he chanted "What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas."

After Fergie of The Black Eyed Peas finished the final performance of the night at the Grammy party, she presented Foxx with a sparkler-topped birthday cake and led the crowd in serenading the Oscar winner with "Happy Birthday."

From there, Foxx, who lived in Las Vegas for several years before his career exploded, moved the party to Tao, where he spent most of his time on stage entertaining the crowd and sharing the mic with Fergie and her bandmate Will.I.Am.

Foxx, who won his Oscar for his portrayal of Ray Charles in "Ray," had a lot to celebrate: He also received four Grammy nominations, and he has just announced a 19-city music and comedy tour that culminates Feb. 16 at the Aladdin/Planet Hollywood during NBA All-Star Game week.

In "Dreamgirls," Foxx plays the manager-turned-mogul character based on Berry Gordy Jr.

Gordy was the founder of Motown Records and the force behind the original dream girls, The Supremes, who had 12 No. 1 hits between 1964 and 1969.

SPREADING JOY

This Santa moment from Mayor Oscar Goodman's Martinis with the Mayor event at the Hogs & Heifers Saloon on Thursday: A woman dressed as Mrs. Claus approached Santa Claus with a personal request.

She explained that her 35-year-old daughter had Down syndrome and asked Santa if he would introduce himself.

Rather than having the daughter come outside to meet him, Santa insisted on going into Triple George to surprise her. The daughter burst into tears at the sight of Santa.

Take a bow, Don Brickman, for bringing someone joy.

On Sunday, Brickman will be on his Harley -- in a Santa suit -- leading the Hogs & Heifers' Toys for Tots Motorcycle Run to Sunrise Children's Hospital.

THE SCENE AND HEARD

Social House (Treasure Island) was the lone Las Vegas spot to make USA Today's Top 10 spots to celebrate New Year's Eve. ... When Nicolas Cage recently made a reservation for Commander's Palace (Aladdin/Planet Hollywood), he made it under the name "Dr. Frankenstein."

SIGHTINGS
