At least 20 vehicles crashed on a rural Wyoming interstate in blizzard conditions Sunday, killing at least six people, officials said.
Several injured victims were taken to hospitals in Laramie and Rawlins, the Wyoming Highway Patrol said.
Troopers didn't know whether there were additional fatalities or injuries because they had not reached all of the vehicles late Sunday, Sgt. Stephen Townsend said.
Troopers at the scene reported zero visibility because of strong winds and blowing snow. Interstate 80 was closed for about 100 miles from Cheyenne to Rawlins.
The crash, which involved semi-trailers and passenger vehicles, was reported about 4 p.m. west of Laramie. Several smaller crashes occurred behind the 20-vehicle crash, troopers said.
VALLEY BAR BURNS
Fire destroys landmark saloon in Centerville
A landmark Douglas County saloon was destroyed by fire early Sunday, authorities said.
The Valley Bar in the community of Centerville near Gardnerville had stood at the intersection of Highway 88 and Centerville Lane for decades.
"This is a significant piece of Carson Valley history," East Fork Fire District Chief Todd Carlini told Gardnerville's Record-Courier newspaper.
Firefighters arrived to find the attic on fire. The roof collapsed shortly after they escaped the building. No injuries were reported.
The cause of the 5 a.m. blaze is under investigation.
Co-owner Julian Larrouy Jr. said the original portion of the saloon was built in Virginia City sometime in the 1850s or 1860s and moved to Centerville by 1900.
Initially used as a cheese factory in Centerville, the building became a bar in 1902. It went through several owners until Larrouy's parents, Julian Sr. and Sybil, bought it in 1945.
The building featured two additions, one dating to the 1930s and the other to sometime after 1945.
ONE PERSON KILLED
Police wound suspect in shooting spree
A man with a 12-gauge shotgun went on a shooting spree along a busy downtown street in Elk Grove, Calif., killing one person and wounding four others before a deputy shot him, officials said Sunday.
Authorities said Aaron Norman Dunn, 28, randomly shot at people, hitting three, as he walked down the street Saturday night. Two other people were injured by glass when bullets hit their car windshields.
Dunn, who is being held on suspicion of murder and attempted murder, was in critical condition at a hospital, said Sacramento County sheriff's Sgt. R.L. Davis.
The coroner's office identified the dead man as John Johnson, 46, of Elk Grove.
