Fire damages apartment building near Gold Coast

An apartment fire near the Gold Coast caused $60,000 in damage Thursday morning.

The Clark County Fire Department received multiple 911 calls around 11:30 a.m. about an apartment fire at 4051 W. Viking Road near Valley View Boulevard and Flamingo Road.

Firefighters found smoke and fire coming from the first and second floor of two apartment units when they arrived.

The residents of the first-floor apartment where the fire started were not home during the fire, according to Clark County Fire Department spokesman Erik Newman.

The residents of the second-story unit that caught fire escaped with minor smoke inhalation.

A total of 45 firefighters responded to the scene and took 15 minutes to put it out.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
