Coroner IDs victim who was shot and killed by roommate

The man who police said was shot and killed by his roommate in southwest Las Vegas on Thursday has been identified by the Clark County coroner’s officer.

Oliver Doppert, 38 of Las Vegas, died from a shotgun wound to the chest, according to the coroner’s office.

Las Vegas Police responded to Doppert’s apartment in the 9000 block of Warm Springs Road, near El Capitain Way, about 9:20 p.m. Thursday night.

According to police, Doppert and his roommate got into a verbal altercation Thursday evening. Afterward, Doppert went to his bedroom and shut the door. The roommate grabbed a shotgun and fired a single shot through the door, hitting and killing Doppert, police said.

Police identified the suspect as 26-year-old Mary Pitrello. Police found Pitrello hours later near the 2000 block of Las Vegas Boulevard, where they also located the shotgun, police said. Pitrello faces charges of murder, robbery, and assault with a deadly weapon.
