Man dead, woman wounded in shooting at mobile home park

A man is dead after a double shooting at a mobile home park in the 3600 block of Las Vegas Boulevard North.

A call came in Tuesday around 10:20 a.m. reporting a shooting at Van’s Trailer Oasis, according to Las Vegas police.

The man was taken to University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Police said a woman also was shot and transported with non-threatening injuries to UMC where she is in stable condition.

Sergeant Matthew Sanford said the suspect was still at large, and there were no witnesses to the incident.

The suspect was seen driving a 2007 Saturn Vue with handicapped license plate 96679, said Sanford.

John Fisher, a maintenance worker for the complex said the victims were roommates and had lived together for two months.

But both Fisher and Mike Dustin, a neighbor from a trailer park down the street, said police frequented the neighborhood several times a week, sometimes twice a day. Most police responses were for fights outside or domestic violence.

“Most of the people associated here are really not that reliable,” he said. “There’s always some kind of activity going on here.”

Dustin said recent changes in management at Van’s Trailer Oasis included efforts to clean up the trailer park, requiring residents to clean their yards or pick up trash.

But as he nonchalantly watched police from behind yellow tape, Dustin said things have been like this for a while.

“Most of the people around here are just used to it,” he said.

In June 2012, three children were killed at Van’s Trailer Oasis after two mobile homes caught on fire. The children’s parents, Amy Hatzenpiller, 26, and Shane Gouaihardou, 22, were indicted in December 2012 for second-degree murder, child abuse and neglect.
