Man, woman hurt as car hits tree, overturns

A man and a woman in their 20s sustained critical injuries after the car they were riding in overturned in the central valley Sunday morning, Las Vegas police said.

The crash occurred at 9:13 a.m. on Charleston Boulevard near Cahlan Drive.

Police said 23-year-old Michele Joseph was driving a 2007 Kia Rio while 20-year-old James Hall was a passenger. Both Joseph and Hall live in Las Vegas, police said.

The Rio was eastbound on Charleston when for an unknown reason it drove onto a raised median and struck a palm tree. Police said the Rio overturned after hitting the tree and came to rest on the passenger side.

Joseph and Hall were treated at University Medical Center.

The incident remains under investigation.
