2 injured after car hits moped on Koval near Harmon

Two moped riders were critically injured in an accident early Monday morning, Las Vegas police said.

The moped and a 2003 Infiniti were both traveling south on Koval Lane just after 2 a.m., police said. The car hit the back of the moped, throwing both riders into the road.

The moped driver, 27-year-old Chris Leichtweiss, sustained serious injuries. The passenger, 19-year-old Tiffany Nelson, was in critical condition. Both were taken to University Medical Center.

The driver of the car, Matthew Thompson, was arrested on charges of drunk driving, police said, and was being held in Clark County Detention Center.
