Las Vegas Library burglarized; investigation affects operating hours

The Las Vegas Library will open later than usual Friday after an early morning burglary.

The crime happened about 6 or 7 a.m., library’s spokeswoman Karen Bramwell said. When security guards arrived at their usual time, they heard someone in the building, stepped out and called police.

Las Vegas police received the call about 8:36 a.m. Officers arrived at 833 Las Vegas Boulevard N. with their K9 units to clear the building when the burglar was found and bitten by the dog, police said.

The burglar, described as a man in his 30s, was taken to University Medical Center. His condition was not available.

The man was found near an employee workroom, Bramwell said. He broke into the north side of the building around the staff entrance.

Bramwell said she thinks this is the first time the library has been broken into.

The library’s usual 10 a.m. opening was pushed back to noon.
