Police investigating body found on Nellis Air Force Base Tuesday

Las Vegas police are working with Nellis Air Force Base security to investigate a man’s body found inside the base Tuesday morning.

The body was found just inside the base’s southern fence line about 6:40 a.m., Nellis Staff Sgt. Victoria Sneed said.

James Zachman, a Las Vegas resident, said he discovered the body while walking his dogs in the Sloan channel. Zachman said the man appeared to be in his 40s and wearing civilian clothes.

As of Tuesday afternoon, police had no new information about the body, including whether the man found dead had any connection to the base.

The county coroner’s office will determine the man’s cause and manner of death and name him once his family has been notified. After that, the Metropolitan Police Department will determine how to proceed in the investigation.
