Strong winds, showers to batter Las Vegas Valley on Monday

Get ready for a very windy start to the workweek in the Las Vegas Valley.

The National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning for Southern Nevada from 3 a.m. to 11 p.m. today . A strong Pacific storm is expected to bring very gusty winds to the area through this evening. Also, there is a 30 percent chance of scattered showers.

The weather service says to expect southwest to west winds between 30 and 40 mph, with gusts up to 65 mph. Winds will become northwesterly during the afternoon today. The strongest winds are expected during the afternoon before decreasing late today .

Strong winds may make driving difficult at times, especially for high-profile vehicles. Blowing dust may hamper visibility at times in the valley.

The warning also affects parts of northern Arizona and Southern California.

After a cooler-than-normal early workweek , temperatures are expected to bounce back to the 80s by the end of the week.
