1 person fatally shot near Texas Southern University

One person was fatally shot near Texas Southern University and a suspect has been detained, Houston police said on Friday.

The school has been on lockdown due to the shooting near campus.

It was the second shooting incident near the university in the past two days.

University officials and Houston police were not immediately available for comment.

The incident came several hours after an 18-year-old student opened fire with a handgun on the campus of Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff early on Friday, killing one person and wounding three, in the latest in a series of U.S. school shootings..

Texas Southern said there was a separate shooting incident at an apartment complex near campus on Thursday night.
