Hunters have until Aug. 5 to seek sage grouse permits

RENO -- The Nevada Department of Wildlife is taking applications for a special sage grouse hunt at Sheldon National Wildlife Refuge.

Applications must be received at the agency's Reno office by 5 p.m. Aug. 5.

The hunt is open to residents and nonresidents and will be held over two weekends, Sept. 17-18 and Sept. 24-25.

Seventy-five permits will be issued through a random draw, and reservations at the refuge along the Nevada-Oregon line are required.

Hunters will be limited to two sage grouse per day, and can only possess four at a time.
