New UNLV football coach names assistants
LAS VEGAS (AP) - New UNLV football coach Bobby Hauck announced the hiring of seven assistants on Monday, including six who worked for him at Montana.
Hauck was named UNLV's coach on Dec. 23, after seven seasons and an 80-17 record at Montana.
Hauck named University of Utah cornerbacks coach J.D. Williams as his assistant head coach, passing game coordinator and defensive backs coach. Williams was a defensive secondary coach at Washington from 2006-08 and at California from 2002-05. Williams played football at Fresno State and was on four Super Bowl teams with the Buffalo Bills.
Montana offensive coordinator Rob Phenicie and defensive coordinator Kraig Paulson have taken the same jobs at UNLV as has Griz linebackers coach Ty Gregorak.
Phenicie was offensive coordinator for seven seasons at UM and prior to that spent three seasons at Wyoming. He coached the Cowboys' receivers and was the program's recruiting coordinator in 2001 before becoming co-offensive coordinator for one season. He was also offensive coordinator at Cal State-Northridge from 1997-98.
Paulson has been the defensive coordinator at Montana for six seasons and was the team's assistant head coach for the past five years. Paulson worked with Montana's linebackers, defensive line and secondary from 1987-99 and then served as defensive coordinator and secondary coach at Utah State from 2000-03.
Gregorak has also spent the past seven seasons at Montana after two seasons as graduate assistant coach at the university of Washington from 2001-02.
Also following Hauck are Montana offensive line coach Chad Germer and tight ends coach Dominic Daste. Germer is a former Montana center who has coached at Montana and Wyoming while Daste has been at Montana for seven seasons, the last four as tight ends coach.
Cedric Cormier is the Rebels' receivers coach. He was at Montana during the 2007 and 2008 seasons and was with Miami of Ohio in 2009.
