Police await details of northeast valley child death

The Las Vegas police abuse and neglect detail is waiting for the autopsy results of a child who died two days before Thanksgiving in unclear circumstances.

Medics responded to a 7:18 a.m. call on Nov. 26 in the 2800 block of North Walnut Road, near Cheyenne Avenue and Las Vegas Boulevard North, and tried to keep the boy alive. The boy, who was younger than a year, died at University Medical Center, police spokeswoman Laura Meltzer said on Friday.

“It looks like when medical responded, it was possible the child was not yet deceased,” Meltzer said. “But by the time detectives got the call and went to the hospital, he was deceased.”

Officers are not sure whether the cause of the child’s death was criminal or whether the baby had a medical condition, Meltzer said, adding that no arrests have been made.

“If the cause and manner of the death is not consistent with a medical issue, then they will go further with their investigation,” Meltzer said of investigators.
