Trash fire on garbage truck causes major traffic delays on U.S. 95 in Las Vegas

Trash in a garbage truck caught on fire Thursday afternoon, causing major traffic delays on U.S. Highway 95.

The Las Vegas Fire Department responded to the scene at U.S. 95 southbound near Decatur Boulevard around 4 p.m., public information officer Tim Szymanksi said.

Trash inside of a garbage truck caught on fire, causing the truck to dump trash on the highway, Szymanski said. “This happens all the time because of the things people throw away,” he said.

The truck itself did not catch on fire, and there were no injuries, Szymanksi said. The trash has been dumped out, causing the right travel lanes to be blocked off for another two hours, according to the Nevada Department of Transportation.

Republic Services is responding to the scene to pick up the trash.
