Truck driver killed in bus accident near Baker

A tour bus accident near Baker, Calif., left one person dead, six injured and all Interstate 15 northbound lanes shut down Saturday morning.
A truck traveling south just north of Zzyzx Road crossed over the center divider into oncoming traffic about 11 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
As it crossed the divider, the truck flipped over and collided with a northbound tour bus.
The tour bus went off the interstate into the desert, but remained upright. The truck caught fire and was engulfed in flames.
CHP officer Don Spiker said the truck driver never made it out of the vehicle. The driver wasn’t immediately identified.
The tour bus driver, who also wasn’t identified, was airlifted to University Medical Center with unknown injuries.
Five bus passengers were transported to nearby hospitals with minor injuries, Spiker said.
All northbound interstate lanes were closed until almost 1 p.m.
It is unclear where the tour bus came from or what its destination was. CHP will continue investigating.
