Twenty-four Clark County homicides from 2009 remain unsolved


Clark County saw 141 homicides in 2009, the lowest number in at least eight years. Twenty-four of those deaths, including one double homicide, remain unsolved because North Las Vegas and Las Vegas police have no suspects or leads. Henderson police reported no unsolved homicides. The victims include suspected gang members, drug dealers and random victims. One victim had the mental capacity of a 10-year-old.

AMBROSIO LIZARRaga, 34

When: Jan. 10, 10:09 p.m.

What: Lizarraga, an illegal immigrant who had been shot in the upper torso, was found dead in a desert area by police. Investigators have no suspect descriptions.

JOSE GONZALEZ, 60

When: Jan. 21, 7:46 p.m.

What: Gonzalez, who might have been homeless, was found shot multiple times behind a Lucky supermarket. A man and woman were seen fleeing the scene.

JOSE LOPEZ-RAMIREZ, 21

When: Jan. 22,

9:20 p.m.

What: Lopez-Ramirez was gunned down in front of space 82 of the Green Spot Trailer Park. The suspects, several Hispanic men, were reportedly driving a 2007 or 2008 dark red Nissan Altima sedan with a partial Nevada license plate of 238V.

JOHN NORRIS, 51

When: Jan. 24, 7:33 p.m.

What: Norris, a delivery man for Pizza Hut, was shot and killed while delivering a pizza to a vacant house. There is a $22,000 reward available for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect.

ARIC BRILL, 16

When: Feb. 20, 10:32 p.m.

What: Brill, a student at Global Community High School, was one of two people shot and robbed outside a house party. The suspects are believed to be two black male teenagers.

JACOB FRANKLIN DEATON, 22

When: March 14, 12:58 a.m.

What: Deaton was shot and killed during an altercation with a group of three to four black men. A white or silver Chrysler 300 and a small red sport utility vehicle, possibly a Chevrolet Blazer or Jimmy, were in the area at the time of the shooting.

LANDTREON DEYON TAYLOR, 32

When: March 18, 3:55 a.m.

What: Taylor, who went by the nickname "Bushwick Bill," after the hip-hop singer, was killed in the intersection in an apparent gang-related shooting. The suspects are believed to be three black men in a dark-colored car.

JOSE JIMENEZ, 18

When: April 6, 5:17 p.m.

What: Jimenez, who investigators believe was gang-involved, was found dead after police received reports of shots fired in the area. The suspects are believed to be two or three Hispanic men.

JUAN MEJIA-HERNANDEZ, 22

When: April 8, 10:36 p.m.

What: Mejia-Hernandez was run over by a black man in a dark-colored vehicle in an apparent road-rage incident.

AARON WHITE, 27

When: April 14, 12:38 p.m.

What: White was the victim of a home invasion robbery in which he was shot and his blue, two-toned 1987 Chevrolet Caprice was stolen. The suspect is described as a dark-complected black man with braids.

LEVIN WRIGHT, 33, AND DARRYL EARL PICKENS, 44

When: April 17, 11:51 p.m.

What: Both men were gunned down in their vehicle on the street by multiple suspects. Both died of multiple gunshot wounds.

FRANCISCO ALVAREZ, 26

When: June 29, 4:54 a.m.

What: Alvarez was in a car and returning from a nightclub when he was approached by several Hispanic men, who shot him and another victim, who survived.

GERALD HIRAI, 31

When: July 11, 11:37 p.m.

What: Hirai was shot in the head in what investigators believe was a road-rage incident. The suspect is believed to be a Hispanic man.

KEVIN FRANCHOW, 38 When: July 26, 12:25 a.m.

What: Franchow, who had the intellect of a 10-year-old, was beaten and shot several times in a park by two young black men.

ERIC FUENTES, 40

When: July 26, 11 p.m.

What: Fuentes was attacked by two young black men while sitting on stairs outside his apartment. He was shot as he fled into his apartment. Police believe the suspects might have been involved in Kevin Franchow's death.

JAMES MENDOLA, 41

When: Aug. 14, 5:21 p.m.

What: Mendola, who was homeless, had wounds to his head and was found dead by passers-by. He was camping on the side of the highway when he was beaten.

OVARIUS P. EVERSON, 31

When: Sept. 16, 12:13 a.m.

What: Everson was shot and killed during a drug rip-off in an apartment complex. The suspects are two black men in their mid-20s who wore dark clothing.

CARLOS VALENZUELA-HERRERA

When: Sept. 17, 2:52 p.m.

What: Valenzuela-Herrera's body was found in the desert after police received an anonymous tip about his whereabouts. Police believe the killing might be drug-related.

DAVID CAMPBELL, 31

When: Oct. 17, 6:18 p.m.

What: Campbell was shot and killed in his car outside a house party. Police do not have any suspect information.

LEWIS KEITH MOON, 43

When: Oct. 19, 8:22 p.m.

What: Moon was found stabbed to death in his home. Police do not have any suspect information.

ARBUARY DANIEL FULLER, 40

When: Oct. 31, 8:41 p.m.

What: Fuller was gunned down after taking his children trick-or-treating. Police have not released suspect information.

KARRIEM ABDUL SHELBY, 37

When: Nov. 28, 11:19 p.m.

What: Shelby was gunned down during a home invasion. Police do not have any suspect information.

ANTONIO GARCIA JR.

When: Dec. 20, 12:07 a.m.

What: Garcia was found dead from a gunshot wound to the head in the trunk of his Toyota sedan, which was ablaze when firefighters reached it. Police believe the killing might be drug-related. Police do not have any suspect information.
