Godfather’s Day: Who could refuse?

Mothers and fathers have their appointed holiday.

With Las Vegas fully and unapologetically embracing its colorful mob past, including her husband's role, maybe Mayor Carolyn Goodman should declare a Godfather's Day.

The thought struck me Wednesday as Janie Carter, sales manager of the gift shop at the Mob Museum in downtown Las Vegas, was going down the list of best-selling novelty items at the attraction, which opened Feb. 14.

The hot merchandise includes a pinstriped black satin fedora. Actress Regina King, best known for "Jerry Maguire" and "Boyz in the Hood," had to have one.

There are loaded dice that roll seven and 11 everytime.

"That will get you a free trip to the desert," Carter said.

The best-sellers include the ice trays in the shape of a handgun and bullets.

A frozen handgun made its way into a glass of wine at our home last week, with someone calling it a "Guns and Rosé" party.

"Those are great for jello shots. We go through those like water," Carter added, clearly on a roll.

Another "hit," she said, is the Al Capone shot glass in the shape of a gun. Or you can purchase the mug shot six-pack that features a head shot of some of the most infamous mobsters, with their rap sheets included on the glass.

Former Mayor Oscar Goodman, who pushed the museum project, found himself the perfect gift while shopping. Drum roll please: a martini glass with a Mob Museum logo on it.

THE SCENE AND HEARD

The Bourbon Room opened at The Venetian last week, a debut timed to coincide with the popularity of the Broadway hit and movie "Rock of Ages." The Bourbon Room borrowed its name from the legendary Sunset Strip club in Los Angeles, the 1980s setting for the movie starring Tom Cruise, Paul Giamatti, Julianne Hough, Alec Baldwin and Catherine Zeta-Jones. Cocktail servers take the stage to sing '80s hits. ...

Brian Howard, executive chef at Comme Ca (Cosmopolitan), will be featured next week on "Chopped," the Food Network series (Thursday, 9 p.m.). The culinary challenge: who can come up with the best combination of gummy fried eggs and corned beef. And what wine would you like paired with that, sir? ...

The Steak House at Circus Circus, one of our city's most popular beef emporiums, is celebrating its 30th anniversary all month with a special $30 petite filet or prime rib dinner special.

THE PUNCH LINE

"Hugh Hefner is back together with his fiancee, Crystal Harris, one year after she called off their wedding. It's like they say: 'If you love something, let it go, and if it comes back to you, it probably ran out of money and remembered you were a billionaire.' " - Jimmy Fallon.
