LETTERS: Nuclear power essential to energy mix

I want to compliment the Review-Journal for the excellent editorial on energy policy (“All of the above,” Sunday RJ). I was pleased to see that the editorial took an intelligent and well-informed position regarding the importance of nuclear power as an essential part of America’s energy mix.

The RJ is doing a service to its readers by giving them recent information that demonstrates the nuclear power industry has improved safety standards, and also by reporting that nuclear power generates about 60 percent of the nation’s zero-carbon electricity. This objective presentation is in contrast to some past misinformation about the Yucca Mountain repository program. The editorial could have added that if nuclear power is to be a viable energy source, the U.S. must have a safe, effective approach to dispose of the waste byproducts.

Thank you to the publisher and editors for presenting a well-balanced editorial.

Don’t dump on Trump

In the war against Donald Trump, there are two self-destructing individuals who will end up on the wrong end of history after this campaign is over. The first is Mitt Romney, who after being endorsed by Mr. Trump in 2012 — and complimenting Mr. Trump for being an outstanding, successful businessman while thanking him for the endorsement — recently poisoned his own well by backstabbing Mr. Trump, calling him a fraud and a phony and an incompetent businessman.

I voted for Mr. Romney in 2012, as did a number of Republican friends. Every single one of them is disgusted with Mr. Romney for what he said about Mr. Trump and for trying to undermine the Republican front-runner’s significant voter support. My previous perception of Mr. Romney as an astute businessman and stand-up guy will never be the same.

The second self-destructing individual is Megyn Kelly of Fox News, who has also targeted Mr. Trump, starting with the first Republican debate last summer. Ms. Kelly’s anti-Trump rhetoric on her nightly show, combined with the angst and anger she exhibits toward Mr. Trump, have damaged her image as a balanced and fair commentator.

My strong support for Mr. Trump will continue. While I consider myself a conservative, Mr. Trump’s populist politics make him an attractive candidate. I am disgusted with a gutless Republican Party of elitists in Congress, more concerned about their pay and perks than in representing those who sent them to Washington, D.C.

Election agenda

The agenda for 2016 election is predictably easy: first, ABC — Anyone But Clinton; then NRA — No Republicans Accepted (in Congress). Following the election and presidential inauguration, the government media representatives and supporters will breathe a sigh of relief at the big party and say, “Well, we survived another one!”

Then, the politicians will get back to the usual business: enriching themselves, starting the next campaign and lying to the public. The citizens will wring their hands, complain and forget the whole thing until the next election, hoping against hope that we will survive and that nothing drastic will happen. Good luck, America.

LETTER: Sonia Sotomayor, retirement and race

Using race to justify or condemn the action of others is simply wrong and, some would say, the definition of racism. We are all one people.

LETTER: Is there another Joe Biden out there?

Both the front-runner presidential candidates should step aside and give us some choices who are younger and have fresh ideas to get us out of the $35 trillion debt.

LETTER: Deciphering progressive jargon

I noticed recently that euphemisms are commonly used by progressives in order to make the agenda they support seem less harsh or unpleasant.
