Democrats’ Labor Day grassroots effort underway
September 3, 2016 - 5:12 pm
With 49 days before early voting begins, Nevada Democrats are hosting a flurry of grassroots efforts through Labor Day.
Organizing events in both the north and south parts of the state include field office openings in Mesquite and in southeast Las Vegas; 50 events to register new voters; 50 volunteer phone banks; and eight canvass walks to knock on doors, according to a campaign release.
The release notes the goals of Nevada Democrats include putting Hillary Clinton in the White House, electing former Nevada Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto to the U.S. Senate, sending Nevada State Sen. Ruben Kihuen and Henderson community leader Jacky Rosen to Congress, and reclaiming Democratic majorities in the state Senate and Assembly.
Congresswoman Barbara Lee, D-Calif., and actor Don Cheadle will join Hillary for Nevada to reach out to voters, including the African American community. Lee will appear Sunday at the 3 p.m. opening of a southeast Las Vegas field office, 2585 E. Flamingo Road. Cheadle will take part in a veterans phone bank at 3 p.m. Monday at Tacos Y Tacos, 3430 E. Tropicana Ave., Las Vegas.
Early voting in Nevada starts on Oct. 22 and ends Nov. 4.
