Clinton holds commanding lead over Trump in Hispanic voter poll

Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton holds a commanding lead over Republican nominee Donald Trump among Hispanic voters in five key battleground states including Nevada, according to a recent poll conducted by Florida Atlantic University.

In Nevada, where Hispanics are expected to make up nearly one out of every four votes, Clinton doesn’t seem to have the same overwhelming support that President Barack Obama enjoyed.

Obama won 76 percent and 71 percent of the Hispanic votes in 2008 and 2012, respectively. Clinton is leading Trump 54 percent to 25 percent, according to the poll results released Thursday.

“Hispanics are one of the fastest growing populations in the United States. Republicans cannot continue to underperform with them and maintain a realistic ability to win some of these battleground states,” said Kevin Wagner, associate professor of political science at FAU. “The electoral map becomes increasingly difficult for Republicans if they cannot narrow these large margins.”
