■ HIGHLIGHTS: At Colorado Springs, Colo., the 51s (79-60) dropped a tough extra-inning affair before notching a blowout victory in the nightcap to split the doubleheader. … Kent Matthes singled in Reid Brignac with one out in the bottom of the eighth to give Colorado Springs (66-72) a walk-off win in the opener. Brignac reached on an infield single, moved to second when Xavier Nady was hit by a pitch and scored on Matthes’ single to left. … The game’s first three batters reached base and scored for the 51s, but they didn’t score again. … The Sky Sox got two runs back in the first on a two-run home run by Nady. Matthes’ solo shot in the fourth tied the game at 3. … Jamie Hoffmann hit a three-run home run and Kirk Nieuwenhuis a two-run shot as part of a seven-run fourth inning to blow open Game 2. … Nieuwenhuis and Eric Campbell each had three hits and drove in two runs in the Las Vegas victory. … Colorado Springs rallied with four runs in the seventh but never threatened the lead. … 51s starter Daryl Thompson gave up four runs on six hits and three walks and struck out six in six innings. … This doubleheader was the second of the six-game series in Colorado Springs, which wraps up with a single game tonight. … Las Vegas holds a two-game lead in the Pacific Southern Division after Sacramento beat Fresno 4-3 Wednesday on Anthony Aliotti’s solo home run to lead off the ninth. Both teams have five games remaining.
