Six homers power 51s past Sky Sox

The 51s hit a season-high six home runs and banged out 17 hits in routing the Colorado Springs Sky Sox, 14-7, Wednesday in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Catcher Travis d’Arnaud homered twice and went 3 for 5 with three RBIs. His first, a two-run shot in the top of the fourth, was part of a five-run inning as Las Vegas took a 6-2 lead. In the fifth, Kai Gronauer hit a three-run homer and Allan Dykstra hit a solo homer in the top of the sixth.

Daniel Muno, who also had three hits, homered in the top of the seventh followed by d’Arnaud’s second homer of the game, giving the 51s a 12-4 lead. Brandon Allen’s two-run homer in the top of the eighth made it 14-4.

Ryan Reid, who worked 3 1/3 innings, wound up the winning pitcher, improving to 2-0. there was a 1 hour, 26-minute rain delay in the bottom of the first inning as 51s starter Darin Gorski did not return when play resumed. Ryan Kulik (0-1) took the loss for the Sky Sox.

The teams play the final game of the four-game series at 6:05 p.m. Thursday. The 51s then head to Oklahoma City for a four-game series with the RedHawks beginning Friday.
