Lowry tops Elko to earn boys 3A basketball title


RENO -- Jesse Studebaker scored eight of his 10 points in the second half, including two free throws with 12.2 seconds left to seal Lowry's 52-48 win over Elko in the Class 3A boys state basketball championship game Saturday at Lawlor Events Center.

Freshman Garrett Naveran led the Buckaroos with 12 points, and Tytus Millikan added 10 points for Lowry (22-6). Studebaker had seven rebounds.

Elko freshman Brandon Jenkins had 17 points, including a 3-pointer with 34 seconds left that cut the lead to 50-48.

Freshman Nathan Klekas had 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Indians (24-7).

GIRLS

■ Spring Creek 61, Elko 46 -- Zuleika Grinsell had 19 points to lead the Spartans past the Indians.

Kyla Sira added 13 points for Spring Creek (21-9).

Anna DuBois had 11 points, and Mariss Elquist had 10 points and 12 rebounds for Elko (18-10).
