Kyle Busch walks away from another hard NASCAR crash at Daytona

Kyle Busch was involved in another hard crash at Daytona International Speedway on Friday but was able to walk away uninjured from this one.

The Las Vegas racer, who suffered serious leg and foot injuries after crashing during the season-opening 2015 Xfinity Series race at Daytona, was traveling second in a line of four cars during practice for Saturday night’s NASCAR Coke Zero 400 when his No. 18 Toyota snapped out of control and slammed nose first into the outside wall. A right rear tire puncture was blamed for the hard crash.

“That was certainly a big hit, and you have to thank NASCAR for their safety advancement in the cars and the drivers’ equipment and things like that — the SAFER barrier as well,” Busch said. “That could have been a heck of a lot worse than what it was.”

Busch was not pleased by the tire puncture. He said he had run just four laps on that set of tires when the right rear let go.

“Pretty confident in Joe Gibbs Racing and their ability to provide good race cars,” he said. “Not very confident in Goodyear giving us good tires to go out there and race on and have confidence in them.”

The crash occurred with about 10 minutes remaining in practice. Busch, who came back from his injuries to win the 2015 Sprint Cup title, will have to switch to a backup car for Saturday’s race.
