Professional poker player George Danzer earned his fourth career World Series of Poker bracelet early Tuesday at the Rio Convention Center, tying the record for the most by a European player.
Danzer won the $10,000 buy-in Seven-card Stud Hi-Low/8 or Better Championship event and matched Italy’s Max Pescatori as a four-time bracelet winner. The 32-year-old Danzer was born in Sao Paulo, but is a German national who currently resides in Salzburg, Austria.
Danzer, best known for his modish scarfs, topped a final table full of star power and earned $338,646 for the victory. He also won this event in 2014 when he was the WSOP Player of the Year.
Las Vegas resident Randy Ohel finished second and took home $209,302, while fellow pro Justin Bonomo was third ($148,601). The eight players at the final table combined for 13 career bracelets.
Danzer was down to only two big bets during three-handed play, but he scored a key triple-up and went on to eliminate Bonomo. Danzer then dominated heads-up play against Ohel after the two started nearly even in chips and finished the match shortly after 2 a.m.
This was Danzer’s fourth cash of the WSOP and his second final table after he took third place in the $10,000 buy-in Seven-card Stud Championship. He now has more than $2.2 million in career WSOP earnings.
