Players to watch:

* Vanessa Selbst is one of the 12 players remaining in the $1,500 buy-in Shootout No-limit Hold ’em event. Selbst, the all-time winningest female live tournament poker player, has spent a large portion of the World Series of Poker sweating her well-publicized side bet with Jason Mercier but now has a shot at her fourth career bracelet.

* Tommy Le of Tustin, California, continues to run well and leads the $10,000 Pot-limit Omaha Eight-handed Championship with 26 players left. Le, a PLO specialist, finished fifth in the $1,500 buy-in Pot-limit Omaha event on June 24 after having the chip lead with two tables left.

* A wide array of top professionals and high rollers are expected to compete in the $50,000 buy-in Poker Players Championship. The event features eight games (No-limit Hold’em, Limit Hold’em, Razz, Seven-card Stud, Seven-card Stud Hi-Low/8; Pot-limit Omaha; Omaha Hi-Low/8 and 2-7 Triple Draw Lowball) with the winner also earning the David “Chip” Reese Memorial Trophy.

Thursday’s highlights:

* Canadian Kristen Bicknell became the first woman to win an open bracelet event at this year’s WSOP, as the 29-year-old student and professional poker player took down the $1,500 buy-in Bounty No-limit Hold ’em event ($290,768 and $9,000 in bounties). It is the second career bracelet for the resident of Ottawa, Ontario, who also won the 2013 Ladies No-limit Hold’em Championship. With Bicknell’s victory, women have won an open event at every WSOP since 2012.

* Highly regarded poker pro Shaun Deeb ran over the final table to win the $1,500 buy-in Seven-card Stud event ($111,101). It is the second career bracelet for the 30-year-old Las Vegas resident who is regarded as one of the best online poker players of all time and now has almost $1.3 million in career WSOP earnings.

Quotable:

“It sort of does, and I would say that just having a second bracelet feels good. I’ve played poker for 10 or 11 years, and it’s a nice thing to win again. I think it’s hard to get respect as a girl in poker, and maybe showing that I did it again — I did luckbox a lot to get it — but I think I played really well as well, so you need luck and to play well.” — Bicknell, on earning more respect in the poker community.
