Floyd Mayweather defends Ronda Rousey against social media trolls

Despite Floyd Mayweather Jr.'s long-running war of words with Ronda Rousey, the unbeaten boxer (49-0) declined to join the chorus of social media catcalls directed at the former UFC bantamweight champion following her stunning loss Saturday to Holly Holm.

"I don't think it's cool how everyone is trolling her on social media," Mayweather told FightHype.com. "Certain things you have to learn. People will love you on Friday and then Sunday morning, it's nothing but negative comments and people making jokes and people making fun about you, which I don't think is cool."

Mayweather also refuted 50 Cent's claim that he told the rapper to post a meme on Instagram mocking Rousey (12-1). 50 Cent posted a picture of the scene from "Rocky IV" in which Rocky holds a dying Apollo Creed in his arms, but the rapper replaced Creed with an image of Rousey after she was knocked out.

"LMAO FLOYD TOLD ME TO POST THIS, he want me to do the dirty work," 50 Cent posted beneath the picture.

Said Mayweather of the rapper's claim: "That's not true at all. I haven't really spoke to anyone about the Ronda Rousey situation, just to set the record straight. I don't have anything against MMA fighters. It's just like boxing; you win some, you lose some. A true champion can take a loss and bounce back.

"I've never been on the other side, so I don't know how it feels. I'm pretty sure she's a very, very strong person, but we still have to take into consideration that she has feelings.

"Everything happens for a reason. This was already written. Listen, if God says, 'In Floyd's career, I don't want him to lose,' you know what? I wasn't going to lose. That doesn't mean that I haven't took a loss before. I'm not talking about boxing; I'm just talking about life. When you lose a loved one, that's taking a loss. I think that everything is just a learning experience. In due time, she'll be able to bounce back and make some noise again in mixed martial arts."

Mayweather even offered to give Rousey boxing lessons.

"I want Ronda Rousey to hold her head up high and don't let this discourage you," he said. "If you need help as far as with boxing, I'm here to help you. It's all about timing and inches. Her ground game is unbelievable. She'll be OK."

The verbal spat between the two fighters began in July 2014, when Mayweather said of Rousey, "I don't even know who he is."

Rousey fired back in July, when after winning the ESPY for Best Fighter, she said, "I wonder how Floyd feels being beat by a woman for once. I'd like to see him pretend to not know who I am now."
