Oakley goes distance, lifts Rebels to baseball victory

Kenny Oakley worked around 11 hits to throw a 104-pitch complete game and lead UNLV to a 4-2 win over San Jose State in the finale of the teams’ three-game Mountain West baseball series Sunday at Wilson Stadium.

Oakley (1-2), a senior right-hander, struck out just two, threw two wild pitches and hit a batter. But he issued no walks in helping the Rebels (3-6, 2-1) to their second win in the series.

Nick Rodriguez drove in the decisive run with a two-out RBI single in the sixth inning.

Corey Pool hit two sacrifice flies, Kyle Isbel had a triple and scored twice, and Payton Squier drew a bases-loaded walk for UNLV, which was outhit 11-6.

Ozzy Braff went 3-for-4 with a home run and a double, pacing five players with multiple hits for the Spartans (5-8, 1-2).
