UNR answers Rebels’ rally, pulls out baseball victory

Bryce Greager’s RBI single in the 11th inning sent UNR past UNLV 6-5 in a Mountain West baseball game Friday at Wilson Stadium.

The Rebels (8-13, 3-5) entered the ninth trailing 5-1 but tied the score on consecutive two-out RBI hits by Andrew Yazdanbakhsh, A.J. VanMeetren and Nick Rodriguez.

Ty Pennington (1-0) then entered in relief and shut out UNLV over the next 1 2/3 innings.

VanMeetren, whose ninth-inning hit was a two-run double, came to the plate in the 11th with runners at the corners and one out but hit into a game-ending double play.

Yazdanbakhsh, Rodriguez and Corey Pool had two hits apiece for the Rebels, who were outhit 15-10.

Trenton Brooks, who scored the decisive run, went 3-for-5 with a double and scored twice to pace five players with multiple hits for the Wolf Pack (9-12, 3-4).

UNR starter Trevor Charpie entered the ninth inning having given up one run on three hits before exiting with two runners on base. Both scored.

UNLV starter Cody Roper gave up one earned run on six hits in five innings.
