Robinson takes Ohio State coaching job

U.S. Olympian Khadevis Robinson, UNLV's head cross country coach and assistant track and field coach for the past 20 months, has accepted the same position at Ohio State.

Robinson, 36, competed in the 800-meter run in the recently completed London Games, where he failed to get out of the first round of qualifying. He also ran the 800 in the Athens Games in 2004.

The Ohio State track and field team is coached by former UNLV coach Karen Dennis.

■ WOMEN'S SOCCER - Senior midfielder Julie Owens scored on a header in the second overtime to spark the Rebels to a 2-1 victory over Oklahoma on Friday in the UNLV Rebel Classic at Peter Johann Memorial Field. The goal, coming in the 108th minute, was only the second of Owens' career.

Freshman Susie Bernal scored the first goal of her career to give UNLV (2-2-1) a 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute. Oklahoma tied the score in the 31st minute.

■ MEN'S SOCCER - The Rebels played to a 1-1 tie against Loyola Marymount in Los Angeles. Freshman Rodrigo Fuentes scored for UNLV (0-2-1), with an assist from sophomore Salvador Bernal.

■ VOLLEYBALL - The Rebels lost to Idaho State 3-1 (25-21, 16-25, 25-18, 25-16) in the Portland Invitational in Portland, Ore.

Madeline Westman and Candice Thomas had 11 kills each and Daryn Glenn 10 for UNLV (2-2). Kinsey Caldwell had a match-high 37 assists.
